Frequently Asked Questions
What does an astragal plate do?
An astragal plate is a steel strip fitted to the edge of a door that covers the gap between the door and the frame. It blocks pry tools from being inserted into the gap, making forced entry significantly harder.
Do astragal plates work on all door types?
Yes. We fit astragal plates to wood, steel, and aluminium doors for residential and commercial properties. We select the correct profile for your specific door type and gap width.
Will an astragal plate affect how my door opens and closes?
No. When correctly fitted, an astragal plate does not interfere with the door swing, latch operation, or seal. We test full door function after every installation.
Can you fit an astragal plate after a break-in?
Yes. Astragal plate fitting is a common part of post-break-in security restoration. We install it alongside frame repair and lock replacement to prevent a repeat incident.
How long does astragal plate installation take?
Most astragal plate installations are completed in under an hour. We carry stock in common sizes and can complete same-day installations throughout Greater Vancouver.
